"Rinkled Rats" feature in ANZAC vs World match

Christchurch, March 9th, 2003 1800 NZT

Four Rink Rats featured in yesterday's ANZAC vs Rest of the World match-up, part of the opening attractions of the 2003 Garden City Old-Timers Tournament.

This is the fourth Garden City event, and with teams from around the globe, it is always a lot of fun. Such is the experience depth of the Rink Rats squad, nearly 85% of the team are old enough to take part in Old-Timers tornaments.

Forwards Ian "Yoda"Bell, Johny "Crash"Argyle, defenseman Ernie "Milkboy" Hayes and goalie Neale "the Korea Incident"Glass all represented the Rodents in fine style.

A feature of the match was the use of the home and away Rink Rats uniforms, which gave some interesting match-ups - Glass making a save on a shot by Glass.

With Hayes and Bell representing their birth-country of Canada, it was up to Argyle and Glass to wave the Kiwi flag and set the tone. It was not to be, with the World selection out-classing the ANZAC squad 12-2. Still, there's always the cricket...
